In the Vineyard

In the Vineyard

As the sun was rising they moved slowly through,
just one person,
alone,
row by row

They gently twirled the soft tendrils slowly through,
each finger,
alone,
stem by stem

They picked them gently and chewed one slowly,
savouring,
sweetness,
bunch by bunch

They dreamed of the sunset arriving slowly,
embracing,
sweetness,
night after night

As the moon was setting on the other side,
just one person,
another,
row by row

They gently felt each leaf on each side,
each finger,
alone,
stem by stem

They picked them gently over the other side,
savouring,
sweetness,
bunch by bunch

They dreamed of the sunset arriving slowly,
embracing,
sweetness,
night after night

Both watched as the sun moved across the sky,
two people,
awaiting,
time rolls by

Moving from row to row across the field,
their feet
carrying,
closer and closer

As darkness fell on them across their earth,
heart pounds,
working still,
vine by vine

Two souls engaging, awaiting across the field,
towards the middle,
nearer,
load by load

And then as the moon was highest in the sky,
four hands,
they touch,
palm to palm

Two bodies they sink, melt into each other,
awaited,
embracing,
quenching craving

Making the most of this precious time,
until morning,
parting then,
over and over.
